NYC. Caught some shorts on the final day (of in-person screenings) at the NYC Indie Theatre Film Festival. Bandar Albuliwi's Sacrifice is remarkable. Bandar and I go back to a film called Peace After Marriage, starring Hiam Abbass — where he gave me one of my first onscreen opportunites. Make sure to catch Sacrifice next week, as the films will be screening online. His films are risky, and moving. Also check out our tribute to the late filmmaker, Lanie Zipoy. We will be showcasing some of her dabblings, her experimental shorts... Lanie is best known for her feature, The Subject, starring Jason Biggs and Aunjanue Ellis; but, what many don't always realize is artists like Lanie experiment with many different forms and ideas before arriving at a fully realized film, like The Subject. We hope you enjoy these beautiful shorts. All proceeds from this screening will go to benefit the PEN America Prison Writing Program.
